Windows 7 (formerly codenamed Blackcomb and Vienna) is an new/latest version of Microsoft Windows, a series of operating systems (OS) produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home desktops and business desktops, laptops, tablet PCs and media center PCs.



Some applications that have been included with prior releases of Microsoft Windows, including Windows Calendar, Windows Mail, Windows Movie Maker, and Windows Photo Gallery, will not be included in Windows 7. some will instead be offered separately as part of the free Windows Live Essentials suite.



Windows XP and Windows Vista Starter users need to do a clean Windows 7 install. Windows Vista Home Basic and Home Premium users can upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows Vista Business users can upgrade to Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows Vista Ultimate users can upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate.


Software Assurance subscribers will be able to download Windows 7 RTM from the Volume Licence Software Centre website. Other large businesses will be able to get access to the final version on 1 September

Windows 7 includes a number of new features, such as advances in touch and handwriting recognition, support for virtual hard disks, improved performance on multi-core processors (Dual Core,Tri Core ,Quad Core) improved boot performance, DirectAccess, and kernel improvements.
